Cloud 9 High Octane Hemp Oil CBD Review

Overall Grade: C. Vape products don’t have enough CBD. Go for the Cloud 9 Rad Dabs or isolate

Cloud 9 Hemp claims that its CBD hemp oil has high concentrations of cannabidiol that put it above the competition if true. Cloud 9 Hemp started in Tennessee in 2014. As marijuana is still illegal in Tennessee, people wanted an alternative which might give them the same health benefits as medical marijuana without the high or legal issues. Cloud 9 Hemp sought to provide this alternative by using hemp extract and preparations which contain some level of CBD, the major therapeutic component of hemp. The hemp used contains no THC and is not psychoactive. It is certified organic by the European Commission. While we might prefer USDA certification, EC certification is largely believed to be at least equivalent, if not better.
Cloud 9 High CBD Hemp Oil

cbd isolate

Is its CBD oil? It’s hemp oil with MCT oil.
Old, the trusted company? No.
Contains verified therapeutic levels of CBD? No for the vape. Possibly yes for Rad Dabs, 25% oil and isolate.
Sourced in the United States? Yes.
Sourced in Europe? Yes.
Certified Organic in the US? No.
Certified Organic by the European Commission? Yes.
Did the lab test in the United States? Yes
3rd Party Testing? Yes.
Do they tell what percentage CBD in a product? No for the vape, yes for the Rad dabs, 25% oil, and isolate.

Advantages of Cloud 9 High Octane Hemp Oil

hemp cbd

Is this product merely hemp oil, containing higher CBD than comparable strains but still too low to be effective?  We will see what the company claims and then what the customers say and see if this is worth a try.  Why are the CBD percentage not clearly listed on the bottle for the vape products and High Octane CBD oil?  Surely, supposed CBD isolate should be nearly completely CBD, right?

We asked Cloud 9 what percentage CBD is their CBD isolate. They responded:

Cloud 9 question

Cloud 9 respond

Cloud 9 Hemp claims that its isolated product has 99.99% hemp. This is a very good thing, if true. Let’s request the labs and see if they get back to us.

Can you believe them?

Cloud 9 Hemp, on its website, makes a claim that its hemp is sourced in the United States.

Then they admit that the hemp is European Certified Organic, rather than certified by the USDA. This does not mean the hemp was not grown in the United States, only that it was not probably certified organic in the United States but hold on.

Finally, on the same page where they said all of their bits of hemp comes from the United States, they say they use only “North American and European grown hemp…”  They told an outright lie, contradicted themselves on the very same page about an issue that consumers would be interested in, do they get their hemp from the US only or from other sources. The answer is the hemp is not the US only grown. And you cannot tell how much is grown in Europe and how much is grown in the US. As far as we can tell, this is shady business; however, their excuse could be that they do this because hemp only grows well in a certain season, so you need at least two sources in locations which have different seasons. However, this does not excuse the blatant lie that all of their bits of hemp comes from the United States of America.

Again, let’s try to see if the isolate has isolated cannabidiol, which is what one would expect from any isolate. Can they tell us the percentage of product which is CBD?  Or is it just concentrated hemp extract which does not contain therapeutic levels of CBD?  Do they even have a 25% or more product?

Vindication by labs?

Maybe

We asked Cloud 9 Hemp to provide certificates of analysis and to our surprise they graciously obliged. Here are the results:

Cloud 9 certificate Cloud 9 certificate

This certificate shows 25% CBD in their 25% Hemp oil. Now, on their site, there is no 25% hemp oil. This could be the High-Octane Hemp oil, but their site does not make this claim for their high octane oil. It does make this claim for their Rad Dabs.

Cloud9 certificate description

So, again, our advice, stick with products which give you a percentage of CBD. What is happening is that companies are producing a variety of products not all of which have therapeutic levels of CBD but they are labeled as if they do. But when they label the product as having 25% CBD, it tends to have the correct percentage. This was even found by the FDA investigating label claims about CBD levels in other products (the did not investigate Cloud 9 specifically). The only products from those randomly chosen from different online companies that actually contained significant CBD were the ones labeled 25%.

Cloud 9 Hemp CBD isolate certificate

This certificate shows that Cloud 9 Hemp CBD isolate indeed has 99 % CBD. We recommend always finding out the CBD percentage.

There’s also another conundrum for CBD manufacturers. CBD has become a prescription drug in the United States, called Epidiolex, meant for children with seizures mostly. This can sometimes mean you cannot sell it without a government license. Companies are side-stepping this regulation by selling hemp oil sourced from industrial hemp, which is legal in all states. It is possible for these companies to concentrate the CBD and they do for a very limited number of products but most products only contain hemp oil with non-therapeutic levels of CBD.

The active ingredient is cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is a cannabinoid. Cannabinoids affect the endocannabinoid system in the body, which regulates some anti-inflammatory and neurotransmitter processes. Cannabidiol is a prescription in the United States called Epidiolex, which was approved in 2018 for the treatment of childhood seizures. The cannabidiol used by Cloud 9 is sourced from industrial hemp and contains no THC and is therefore legal in all 50 states of the United States.

Ingredients:

  1. Non-GMO Isolated Cannabidiol
  2. Hemp extract
  3. Hemp oil
  4. Flavoring
  5. Concentrated CBD
  6. MCT oil

 How to Use

Vape

Cloud 9 has many flavors of vape CBD E-Liquid. They also sell vape pens that are compatible with the oil.

Dab

Cloud 9 sells Rad Dabs which has 24% CBD. This product actually makes a claim to a certain percentage of CBD which can be tested and either confirmed or denied. Dabs can be used on an oil rig or a regular bong.

Eat

Cloud 9 sells CBD honey and gummies. Oils and tinctures can be put under the tongue or eaten with food.

 Topical

Cloud 9 Hemp has face creams, lotions, and other topical CBD products.

 Tincture

The tincture is an extraction of CBD via alcohol or glycerin. It can be placed under the tongue or added to food. Cloud 9 has flavored drops like Butterscotch and syrup sprays.

 Dosage

The dosage you take will depend on the product and your condition. Generally, you can start with 25 mg of CBD and titrate upward. Follow the label instructions to find out how much CBD is in a serving of the product you are using. You can see the chart below to see how the prescription form of cannabidiol, Epidiolex, may be prescribed for seizures or off-label. Cloud 9 Hemp products are not the same as prescription CBD and not meant to treat, cure, or diagnose medical conditions. Rather, industrial hemp products can be used for self-alleviating of discomforts, not treatment of diseases. For example, for non-medical anxiety, you might compare to the dosing used for sleep disorders.

dosage recommendations

 How it Works

We recommend getting the 25% CBD Hemp oil which appears in the certificate of analysis. This may be the Rad Dabs product or the High Octane oil, this is not clear. You might also choose the CBD to isolate so that there’s no doubt that you have gotten therapeutic levels of CBD. Other products may be fancy and enjoyable but not contain the level of CBD referred to in CBD studies. If you are interested in products which look like the following, be sure to ask for the CBD level before you purchase, as these products may not have high CBD levels, nor may they claim to have high levels: Cloud 9 Hemp CBD oil 350 mg, Cloud 9 Hemp CBD terpenes. If you get a product that does not list the percent of CBD (not mg, but percent), do not expect it to have the benefits of CBD. It may have the benefits of hemp oil but not necessarily that of CBD.

Cannabidiol works by binding to various receptor targets throughout the central nervous system and the rest of the body. Acting at these receptor sites, it exerts influence on the metabolism of various neurotransmitter systems.

Mechanisms of action of CBD

  1. GPR6 (inverse agonist)
  2. GPR3 (inverse agonist)
  3. CB2 receptor agonist
  4. CB1 receptor agonist
  5. Serotonin 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist
  6. Inhibitor of fatty acid amide hydrolase, increasing levels of endogenous cannabinoids
  7. GPR55 (antagonist) receptors
  8. GPR12 (inverse agonist)
  9. Glitazone receptor agonist
  10. The allosteric modulator of mu and sigma opioid receptors

These actions produce anti-inflammatory, anti-pain, and anti-seizure effects which can be beneficial to address a range of discomforts.

Cloud 9 Hemp began in 2014 when the demand for the health benefits of CBD skyrocketed due to a new awareness of the therapeutic effects of medical marijuana. People who wanted the benefits without the high turned to CBD.

 Standout Features and Negatives

The great advantage of Cloud 9 is a large selection of products, the third-party lab results upon request, and the fact that they list percent CBD on at least two products, the Cloud 9 CBD isolate and the Rad Dabs.

Cloud 9 has a large selection of creative flavors and label designs. They have everything from vape to balms.

One negative is that some of the bits of hemp are not sourced in the US.

Another negative is that the hemp, of course, does not contain THC and therefore does not have the full benefits of THC on pain relief and mood.

The last negative is that only two of the products, 25% CBD Hemp oil (Rad Dabs), and CBD isolate are claimed and measured to have therapeutic CBD levels. The other products may or may not have therapeutic CBD levels and the labeling of such products is misleading if not inaccurate. For the record, it does not appear that Cloud 9 Hemp is one of the product lines which the FDA revealed do not contain the stated level of cannabinoids. However, only 2 of 25 products tested had the claimed CBD levels, and both products were labeled 25% CBD hemp oil, suggesting many of these CBD companies are cookie-cutter franchises all getting their materials from the same cheap sources and making a product line that is different in branding only. So, the 25% CBD Hemp oil products from any of these such companies are more likely than the other products to have therapeutic levels of CBD.

Does CBD have any side effects?

CBD is unlikely to have many side effects under 300 mg daily. Above that dosage, one should consult a doctor.

Before we look at the side effects, let’s look at the safety. Consider these facts:

CBD Safety facts

  1. Does not induce changes in food intake
  2. Does not induce catalepsy
  3. CBD is non-toxic
  4. Does not affect physiological parameters such as:
  5. Does not affect gastrointestinal movement
  6. Does not alter the psychomotor function
  7. It does not alter psychological functions.
  8. Chronic use and high doses up to 1,500 mg/day of CBD are reportedly well tolerated in humans.

(Bergamaschi, Queiroz, Zuardi, & Crippa, 2011)

Possible Negative Side Effects of CBD

  1. Tiredness
  2. Inhibition of hepatic drug metabolism
  3. Decreased fertilization capacity
  4. Decreased activities of p-glycoprotein and other drug transporters
  5. Alterations of in vitro cell viability
  6. Sleepiness
  7. Poor quality sleep
  8. Insomnia
  9. Diarrhea
  10. Decreased appetite
  11. Changes in appetite

In general, CBD is safe and well-tolerated. Doses above 300 mg should have a doctor’s monitoring.

Cloud 9 Hemp CBD Oil reviews

Review: “Fake Facebook review”

Cloud 9 Hemp CBD Oil fake review

Why include a review that is obviously fake?  It says something about the character of the company, that they would hire someone who would put fake reviews on Facebook. This review is too well-written, has bullet points, a page of text because she’s getting paid by the word. People on social media don’t talk like that. No typos. Perfect punctuation. This was written by a writer who didn’t disguise that fact by writing like someone on social media. Cloud 9 gets mad points off for this debacle. Possibly, the 25% Rad Dabs and the isolate does. It’s probably hard in manufacturing terms to put enough CBD into a vape, but it is what is popular. Some people do in fact vape nothing but liquid flavors, so, it’s not terrible for them. But it’s misleading to put ‘CBD’ vape for people looking for relief of serious discomforts (not diseases) when the products have low CBD. For the record, Cloud 9 has isolate and a ‘mixologist’ product that you can add to your vape to add extra CBD.

Cloud 9 Hemp CBD Oil reddit review

This post on Reddit greatly confirms what we suspect, that the vape does not deliver therapeutic levels of CBD.

Review: Grade D. “2-2.5 mg of CBD per draw…you would have to hit that thing all day to get any significant amount.”

Cloud 9 Hemp CBD Oil D review

This response nails it, you probably cannot get significant CBD from a vape.

Review: Grade D. “You are still getting a minuscule amount per draw…”

Cloud 9 Hemp CBD Oil review

This response continues the explanation. It would simply take far too many hits to get your CBD from the vape. We also learn here that you can add CBD to the vape by adding their ‘mixologist’ product, High Octane oil, or finding a way to add the isolate to your vape.

Review: “I did not feel a thing.”

Cloud 9 Hemp CBD Oil review1

This user is having the same issue. If in fact, Cloud 9 Hemp puts the amount of CBD as stated in the vapes, they should just be honest that this amount is not therapeutic. If they are trying to fool us, then we just have to poo their products altogether, except the isolate and the 25% oil.

Q&A about Cloud 9 High Octane Hemp Oil CBD:

Is Cloud 9 Hemp a scam?
Our research has uncovered some shadiness. I wouldn’t say in this bad manner. The vape products probably don’t contain therapeutic levels of CBD. The hemp, probably, being sourced in the US, then revealed their own lie. But, on the other hand, the isolate and 25% hemp oil might have enough CBD to work.
How much do you take?
Start with 10 mg to 25 mg of CBD and don’t go above 300 mg. Dosing will be different with each product. For the Hemp oil, start with 2 -3 drops. You can add 1 or 2 drops to your vape to make your vape contain higher CBD levels.
Is CBD psychoactive? Will it make you high?
No, and no.
Is hemp oil the same as CBD oil?
No. Hemp oil is made from hemp seeds and does not contain therapeutic levels of CBD. The oil has its own health benefits separate from CBD.
Some products are CBD hemp oil drops, which is hemp oil infused with CBD. High Octane hemp oil from Cloud 9 is concentrated hemp oil with CBD added to MCT oil.
Does Cloud 9 High Octane Hemp Oil contain THC?
No. Trace amounts of THC below the federally mandated level of 0.3% can be present.

Conclusion

Grade:  C

After thoroughly reviewing the product, we would call it shady but 2 of the products might work, including the Cloud 9 Rad Dabs and the CBD isolate. You can send the High Octane Hemp oil to a 3rd party lab, with the isolate, and determine if, in fact, they contain a high percentage of CBD. They say that High Octane Hemp oil can be added to their vape products so, in order to have therapeutic levels of CBD, you need to add the High Octane Hemp oil or find a way to add the isolate, dabs, or ‘mixologist oil’ to your vape. It would be great if they just told you this upfront and showed you how to do it. So, theoretically, it’s possible to use these products effectively, but they are making more money by allowing people to use it ineffectively and some of these people are in a lot of pain, so they get a lot of points off for that.

FDA Disclaimer

The use of CBD products with the exception of Epidiolex and Sativex has not been evaluated or approved by the FDA.  These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Drug Screening Disclaimer

While most CBD products claim to have little to no THC, it is theoretically possible to fail a drug test for THC. This can happen because some CBD products have been tested to have far more THC than represented on the label. Also, CBD is similar in structure to THC.
