Origins, Genetics, History

Dutch Treat Type:  Dutch Treat is a descendant of the following strains:

  • An Indica which originated in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
  • Exact lineage is not known
  • Popularized in Amsterdam

Dutch Treat is a very popular marijuana strain of uncertain origin. Despite its name, it did not originate from Amsterdam. It first appeared in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It became very popular, as this Indica-dominant hybrid packed a strong dose of THC and has strong sedative properties. Its use spread to parts of the US and Canada, then finally to Amsterdam where its popularity ballooned. It became a staple in Dutch shops and cafes. This popularity positioned this strain to spread even further into Canada and the US, and finally all around the world.

Appearance and Smell

The Dutch Treat marijuana plants are fairly short and stout. The dried nuggets are a beautiful green, slathered in cannabinoid-rich trichomes creating a thick, glossy glaze, dotted with orange pistils. The vibrant colors are a sure indicator of the health of the plant. The fragrance and taste of the plant have been described as pine, earthiness, berries, fresh wood, nature, sweet, fruity, and sugary.

How to Grow Dutch Treat Cannabis Seeds or Cuttings

Growing weed from Dutch Treat cannabis seeds and cuttings is rated as comparatively easy. This plant grows well in a drier, warmer climate. Seeds for this strain can be obtained by mail from a vendor as per the laws of your jurisdiction. A hydroponic set-up is recommended for Dutch Treat cannabis plants. Hydroponics offers a higher yield and an easier way to keep the environment regulated and free of pests.

Hydroponic growing means you will grow in water and minerals rather than soil. Though counter-intuitive, this kind of set up has some advantages with increased yield being the most important. In addition to the water you will use in the system, you will need an additional substrate to hold the water. Clay pebbles are a popular and versatile choice.

Next, you will choose a nutrient mix to put in your solution to be fed to the plants and a hydroponic setup, which may be an open or closed system or an aeroponic system for advanced growers. Indoors, you can expect plants to flower in eight to nine weeks. Flowering may have to be induced with a dark/light schedule recommended by your seed vendor. Yield can be about 12 ounces per meter squared.

Outside, you should choose an area with rich, organic soil, and a sunny, warm, and dry environment. You may choose to enrich your soil with Flower Power fertilizer. Plants will flower in the late days of September.

LOVE. THIS. SHIT. And my body too. Dutch treat knocked me on my ass and blew my mind away after hitting it hard with an amazing euphoria and going on more physical level, giving a nice numb to my arms and legs and chest. The nugs have beautiful vibrant green colour with tiny trichomes, covered with crystals, that makes it look like the nugs are wet and it's really sticky on the inside. The flower has a uniquely strong smell of eucalyptus with a scent of sandalwood and menthol, accompanied by piney, earthy and sweet flavor on the background. I use it mostly in the evening or sometimes in the late Saturday afternoon because of its strong Indica finish. By the way that's the reason I don't recommend it to new users, because at first everything seems to be going just fine, but then suddenly the high goes out of your control and u can regret to have smoked it... But my connoisseur friends are welcome to enjoy every part of it! Top shelf product.

After my friends told me about this strain I've been looking forward to trying it and it didn't disappoint me at all! I'll start the review with the description of its smell which is just amazing. It always makes me feel like I'm on my farm again, walking in the pine woods playing on the spearmint field with dank earth... And it's extremely soft on your throat, I didn't cough like usual. The smoke had an earthy and menthol taste with slightly noticeable hints of pine. The quality of the high is beyond any comparison. At first I felt much happier when I was before smoking but my head remained fully clear and my heart didn't dance tap dance in my chest. So the first 15 minutes gave me mellow, happy and uplifted high, nothing extra. When I was already happy with everything, body high began to roll in and made me even more comfortable than I thought I could possibly be, without making me couch locked or anything. A nice thing to smoke before going to sleep, but at the same time you have a choice whether to do so. All in all, this is a really good shit for the afternoon or early evening to chill out with your besties at home after a hard day, calm down your mind and relax your body. This one feels like classic.
